Seeds See below for our range of dye plant seeds. If only one item displays, choose to ‘order by price’ and all the options should appear. We regret that we are unable to sell seed outside the United Kingdom. For Europe we recommend Rühlemann’s and Jellito in Europe and in the USA Botanical Colours
Offer for charities and those on low income. If you are seeking seeds for any charity project in the UK please contact us as we may be able to provide a discount or a donation depending on stock. Likewise if you are on a low income or work for a horticultural therapy or community gardening project and would like help to attend one of our workshops, please get in touch to discuss discounts.
Workshops We have a programme of in person workshops in Hitchin using an outdoor classroom and kitchen next to the dye garden. We introduce you to growing and working with the classic and most colourfast dye plants, drawing upon over 15 years’ experience developing a working dye garden. More information on our courses is available here.
Botanical Print Collaboration We offer botanical printing workshops using plants growing in the Nature’s Rainbow Dye Garden. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear about workshop dates.
Garden visits and plant sales We regret that we are unable to sell dye plants by mail order. However if you sign up for a Garden Visit there are always plants for sale and the ticket price includes one free plant. Garden visits last two hours including a detailed tour of the dye garden and refreshments. If you would like to book a bespoke visit for your group please get in touch.
Merchandise
Ultimately we would like to self-publish a book all about dye plant gardening to combine in one place the information on this blog and much, much more. Meanwhile, you can help support us dedicate the time to writing the book by buying some merch! We have beautiful one-off botanically printed items created in collaboration with Louise Drosdzol, items which Ashley has dyed with indigo from our own plants and the brilliant book by Ian Howard “From Field to Fashion” on how to grow Woad at field scale in the UK.
Dyestuffs
When we have a surplus of dye plant material, items will appear in the shop under this heading. We currently have some dried Rubia cordifolia and dried Alder buckthorn leaves suitable for botanical printing. If these item are showing as out of stock please contact us as we often have more we can package up.
You can sign up to receive occasional newsletters to get alerts of courses and products as soon as they are available for sale.
We sell a small number of plants at our workshops and stalls in Hitchin. For mail order dye plants we can recommend badgercrafts.co.uk based in Devon who are very skilled plant dye growers and dyers.
